In Progress
As part of the 21/22 Soho Writers Lab I wrote a full length play called “ Just a F#@k Boy with Feelings” which was submitted to the Tony Craze Award.
In Summer of 2022 it had a reading at Tara Theatre in London facilitated by Artistic Director Natasha Kathi- Chandra and recently, it completed a Seed commission by Kala Sangam Arts x Jaivant Patel Company. Alongside that, it also received dramaturgical support by Kerry Kyriacos Michael MBE and had a showing in Spring 2025 in Bradford.
The body of work is loosely inspired by folk stories from my childhood in Pakistan, as well my experience of working with several LGBTQ+ charities and survivors of drug addiction, homelessness and sex workers. At the core of it; the story questions our connection to each other as humans, the ideology of love and a grasp on reality we hold.
I am currently reworking the world of this project and its form. Questioning, if it should be told as a theatre play, audio work, film, series or all? I am really fascinated with mediums of storytelling and how they can be nuanced, seamless, accessible, inclusive and voyaristic. How is it, we can best serve the story we are telling in cross forms or a singular form? How is it, we can tear the rule books and justify a piece of art? How do we gain funding and where should it be showcased? To answer those questions and also decode certain perspectives, I am in post- production on conceptualising this body of work, as a Poetry mixtape accompanied with 6 short films. All of the pieces will be released publicly by end of 2025. Hoping…
